How Long It Takes To Make Chicken Parmesan

This easy recipe can be finished in just over an hour, or about 70 minutes including baking time.

What Sauce Goes on Chicken Parm

Classic chicken parmesan uses pasta sauce as the main sauce.

Chicken topped with cheese, and then a hefty dose of pasta sauce makes for a creamy, delicious sauce that also goes well with pasta.

Using my homemade pasta sauce for this recipe takes it next level delicious, but you can also use your favorite pasta sauce from the store.

The Best Pasta for Chicken Parmesan

The best pasta for chicken parmesan is your favorite pasta. We like spaghetti or Rotini as our pasta side. Add a little pasta sauce and parmesan to your pasta for a finished dish.

Chicken Parmesan should also be served with Caesar salad for a rounded meal.

What Can You Use Instead of Breadcrumbs for Chicken Parmesan

This classic recipe doesn’t need any breadcrumbs. Instead, you use oats and flour.

Breadcrumbs can be hard to come across, and oats are a budget friendly addition to meat coatings.

I started using oats to replace crackers and breadcrumbs for coatings a few years ago and found them to be a great replacement.

No one even notices the swap.

How To Make Simple Chicken Parmesan

To make Chicken Parm, you need chicken breast, oats, seasoning salt, flour, oil for frying, pasta sauce and cheese. Oil for frying in a deep pan as well as pasta to go along side.

Ingredients For Chicken Parm

  • 2 lbs. Chicken Breast
  • 2 cups quick oats
  • 3/4 cups flour
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan Cheese
  • 3 eggs
  • 2.5 tsp. seasoning salt
  • 200 grams of mozzarella cheese
  • 8 cups pasta sauce (or 2 jars)
  • 6 cups dried pasta (Rotini or Spaghetti)
  • Oil for frying

Preheat oven to 350°F.

Start off by cutting the chicken breast pieces in half length wise. With a meat hammer, hammer them into thin slices.

In a small bowl, crack 3 eggs and add seasoning salt to whipped eggs.

Next blend the flour, parmesan cheese and oats on a blender until fine.

Preheat about an inch of oil in a frying pan.

Meanwhile, dip a piece of chicken breast into egg wash, and immediately into coating mixture, pressing crumbs into the meat for a thick coating.

Fry in hot oil quickly, browning both sides.

No need to check internal temp at this point.

Layer in a single layer in a 9×13 baking dish, or small roaster. Dip, coat and fry until all chicken breast is golden.

Next you will add a layer of cheese on top of the fried chicken. I used marble cheese, but recommend mozzarella if possible.

Add 6 cups of pasta sauce on top. Put in oven and bake for 30-45 minutes, or until internal temperature is 165°F.

Once the chicken is almost done, cook your pasta according to directions.

Add in the remaining 2 cups of pasta sauce and a sprinkle of cheese if preferred.

Serve alongside a green salad and enjoy!
